Poem Types

Since I am assigned poetry in school, i will brush up on some different types. Also, this is a great thing to do when you are bored.

An acrostic poem, is a simple, and very popular poem to make. You have probably done it for a last minute card for your mother.

Marvelous
Optimistic
Magnificent

except it has many forms...

Mine is the best
Of all the rest
Marvelous

 aMazing
mOtivating
 eMotional  (that was uncalled for)

A cinquain poem is made up of five lines that do not rhyme, and they all have a certain number of syllables

Line 1: 2 syllables
Line 2: 4 syllables
Line 3: 6 syllables
Line 4: 8 syllables
Line 5: 2 syllables

An echo poem is when the last word of a poem line is echo'd or repeated as a different word underneath that line


I whisper into the rain

pain
But only year a patter
splatter
I cry into the cloud
loud
But only silence is heard
bird

(that was weird but oh well)


This is a tanka poem,


 Line 1 – 5 syllables
 Line 2 – 7 syllables
 Line 3 – 5 syllables
 Line 4 – 7 syllables
 Line 5 – 7 syllables

My dog's name is jack
His colors are white and black
He is dominant
But he will mean you no harm
To me he is a real charm

Diamante Poem is a poem in the shape of a diamond.

I think of these as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you get both sides morphed together

Line 1 - Subject
Line 2 - Two describing words about line 1
Line 3 - Three doing words about line 1
Line 4 - A short phrase about line 1, a short phrase about line 7
Line 5 - Three doing words about line 7
Line 6 - Two describing words about line 7
Line 7 End subject

A Kennings Poem is a two-words per line poem describing someone or something

My Brother

diaper-user
scream-blaster
food-eater
tail-puller
nap-hater
food-snatcher
spider-catcher
sister-beater

that baby
my brother


A Haiku is VERY simple

Line 1 - 5 Syllables
Line 2 - 7 Syllables
Line 3 - 5 Syllables

If only you knew
that this is not a poem
it is a haiku

i wrote this for you
i think it is very new
that i write haikus
